Who started this whole downward saddle angle trend? This, and slammed saddles are two of the most common mistakes made by beginner riders. Somebody please explain were the wacky saddle angle trend started. I am truly interested.

Nice build. Saddle looks awkward. So does no foot retention. Not sure about machined wheels. They can’t make up their mind about wanting to either be silver or black. I’m on the fence with this one. It’s the complex color scheme.

Sam, this looks really nice. I’m def a fan. Don’t listen to the haters, that’s all they do on this site. I guess all the people that complain about the seats being wrong, don’t actually ride a bike. The downward angle makes riding much easier and looks better too. No complaints here, looks good.

David, you are an asshole. People who say the seat is wrong say that because the seat is wrong. They”don’t ride”? wrong butthead.

Sloman, you’re terrible, kill yourself. I followed the link from your username, please tell me those paintings are really yours. I’m talking about the ones that look like an 8th grader painted. I can’t believe those are actually priced. Also, you’re the last person that should be critical of anything in life, you’re pony tail is the most ridiculous thing ever and to make matters worse you took that lame photo with your cat and even tagged the cat. Even if that page isn’t yours, you still suck. Keep up the hate douchebag! Sweet bike Sam!

@ David Culver: Not hating, just giving my opinion, which is the point of this “forum.” I like this bike a lot, but I’m not sure I love the machined wheels. I would prefer either black or silver. But that’s my opinion, and sam can do whatever he wants. Overall it’s well conceived, classy, and has transcended many amateur mistakes. As far as the saddle being “wrong” I never said that. I said it looks awkward and it probably feels awkward. I say this from 20 years of riding experience, and though I can’t speak for everyone, I’m sure the majority has equal or greater riding experience. The forum has a consensus on this issue for a reason. Behind each of my comments is plenty of experience and reasoning, and you should consider this before making assumptions and generalizations, as well as launching personal attacks against fellow members. At any rate, I try not to take myself too seriously, and you and sloman should do the same. Give sloman a break. He’s an old man in pain. And sloman, go easy on the kids.

@David Culver, nobodies hating. I think it is very immature and irrelevant to your argument to bring sloman’s paintings into the mix. Because you did such an infantile thing, I can no longer take you seriously. Because I feel bad that you are misinformed regarding saddle angles, I will fill you in. Saddles must be flat because it keeps you from sliding forward and keeps stress off your wrists. If you find you saddle uncomfortable without being at a downward angle, it is most likely because it’s a bad fit or it has not broken in yet. Saddles take time to break in and become comfortable and moulded to your bottom. I recommend you read the article on saddle angle by the late, great, bicycle mechanic Sheldon Brown. Hopefully it will answer some of your questions and rid you of your misinformation.

This is a nice build! Like others said though, foot retention and a better saddle angle would make it better, and maybe some more road bike like pedals, although the ones you have look nice and comfy.
@David Culver Why would you say such rude things to Sloman, why does it matter how his paintings are, and other personal stuff. It’s not about that on this site.
December 9th, 2011 @5:54 am
Sloman? A pony-tailed, 8th grade painter? who knew? I imagine he has huge career -what with all the friends he makes. David got a little peeved being called an asshole. I would too. Anyway, saddle should be parallel with the toptube. A set up like this often indicates a poor frame-fit.
December 9th, 2011 @7:20 am
Yep.! Saddle tilt is a indicator of the seat post being to high up. Just lover it a tiny bit and level out the saddle, your gooch will thank you..
Other than that no complaints, looks like a well done conversion..

Nice lugs, fix the saddle.

hate the flask, but it’s a pretty classy bike for being gold. I’ve tried it but I wouldn’t angle my seat like that anymore…not necessary. Horizontal or close to it works surprisingly well, even with the bars low
