Congrats on the wheel build. I’ll never attempt it, not going to happen. Looks good. Welcome to the scene. Get some dirt on it.

Bob: Don’t talk yourself out of wheel building. It’s time-consuming, but you can’t break anything. Any possible screw-ups are completely fixable. You will then be a true bike freak.

The building is easy, just follow Sheldon. It’s the truing that makes you nuts but that’s just till you get a feel for which way tightens or loosens and by how much.

I agree with ddave and Sloman. Sheldon’s site is the best and easiest to follow, even if you have never built a wheel before. Just go slowly and carefully, checking the online instructions as you go. You’ll be glad you tried it.

I had the wheels checked over at my LBS for tension and that I didn’t do anything too wonky – was all quite easy by following this guide:

Great to learn on fixed gear wheels as everything is nice and symmetric – no dishing read.
I’ve leveled the seat and bars a touch.

I’ve never been hesitant to try anything but wheel building. It seems like Everest. But other repairs seemed daunting before I tried them too. Thanks for the encouragement.

Buy a front hub,use an old wheel and just transfer hubs a spoke at a time to get the feel and general ‘tude. Front means no offset hassels,Stick to a 36H x 3 cross. Ride it a while. Then go try the rear or radial or snowflake. But mostly enjoy.
