April 4th, 2010 @9:03 am
Nice, but borderline spooky.
April 4th, 2010 @1:02 pm
loving the white on white. i cant wait to put white deep v’s on my build.
April 4th, 2010 @5:51 pm
Cool but like ng says it’s too close to a shrine for comfort.
April 5th, 2010 @10:22 pm
I think ng is making the spooky comment because your bike looks like a ghost bike. On the east coast when someone is killed on a bike, it is spray painted white and left as a memorial for everyone on the street to see. the background also looks like a haunted library from scooby doo. lol
April 5th, 2010 @10:49 pm
Interesting how the pedals/toe cages seem to defy gravity here. Boo!
April 6th, 2010 @6:03 am
Man I love those style handlebars! I wish a pair would pass though our shop.
April 6th, 2010 @12:07 pm
Everything below the top tube is BORING! Sorry but it doesn’t take much creativity to do everything in one color. This is basically a blackout, but in white which is kind of disrespectful.
April 6th, 2010 @1:27 pm
Sweden does not have Ghost Bikes or casualties. (?)
April 6th, 2010 @2:14 pm
This^ is like a ghost bike with chocolate icing.
And this is a ghost bike with mustard… http://www.myfixedgear.net/raleigh-record
April 6th, 2010 @5:55 pm
Biff – “…blackout, but in white…” and what does that equal?
April 7th, 2010 @3:55 am
Wooden Shoe Biker: Casualities yes – but not so common as in the US – The bikers has their own lanes separated from the regular traffic. The white colur represents purity and innocence. Not death as it seems to be in the US. There are some differences between nations and culture.
But i suppose that the fixie community is growing in Sweden and will, sooner or later adopt the concept of ghost bikes.
But this one, intended ghost bike or not, it is a beauty!
Cheers!
Jon

Wes what I’m saying is there’s not too much visual interest with blackouts. So “whiteout” is just as dull and also adds disrespect to the fallen riders.
April 7th, 2010 @2:52 pm
Well at least they actually built the bike, but who wants to ride a bike that looks like a memorial to a dead cyclist?
April 7th, 2010 @3:42 pm
Jon, I agree the bike is beautiful and almost too elegant to ride. I am originally from Holland and have visited there since emigrating to USA and envy the bicycle lanes over there and in Sweden as you point out. Here they put the lanes if any, in the middle of traffic and I frequently use the sidewalk or oppose traffic sometimes. Too many fools on cellphones and a cigarette in the other hand. Your bike is elegant and would replace the White Horse for a lady waiting for her Knight on the White Steed to sweep her off her feet.!
April 7th, 2010 @5:14 pm
It’s like driving a hearse. Or a red 1958 Plymouth Fury and yelling “Christine” at the top of your lungs. But I guess because he’s Swedish we can give him a break. I agree with Biff though, total color is incredibly boring, even if they’re nice parts.
April 9th, 2010 @1:51 pm
The more I see this bike the more I dislike it. I understand the “ghost bike” isn’t part of bike culture where you are. But aside from the ghost-ness, it’s like this bike is a blank canvas. Considering all the colors, styles, paint effects, details, etc. available and the infinite ways of combining them, this is like an exercise against creativity. Sorry. No hate intended. It just doesn’t inspire looking at it for very long. That rug on the other hand…

Hello, i am one of the guys behind the bike. It is sadly that the bike design connects to fallen riders in the US bike culture (and maybe in other countries). I respect that the bike does provoke some people in this community, im truly sorry for that. We did not know anything about ghost bikes when we started this project. We are sorry for that.
This is the short story:
This is a CSR project, that we want to get former drug users back to work, by building bikes and get paid. What we have done is design a bike (pure scandinavian style) and settle the deals with Brooks, Vittoria and other companies to support and deliver to the bike project. The bike is in production and for sale – there are customers all over the globe (including the U.S), execpt for Africa. The profit from the sales goes straight back to the guys who build the bikes and their way back to the community. But there are only 50 bikes that will be delivered (they are already sold) for 700€ or 938 USD.
Why building bikes? It´s all about our green planet and creating a case to inspire the big multinational companies to show that it is quite easy to reach a global market with a product and at the same time do some good in the local community.
Again, we are really sorry for the inconvinience. But in Scandinavia and Sweden, the colour of wihite represents something different (and it is positive). And of course, less is more and subtle design is what we like in our country.
Greetings from Sweden

I would take this over a Black Out any day. But I would get all black tires for it and chromed spokes. I’m curious if the white is a Pearl White or straight white.
April 9th, 2010 @4:50 pm
DI , I just read your mission statement. It sounds good, will all the bikes be identical ? Thanks and it makes more sense than the crop walk here in the US. Time spent walking is OK but to build a bike is more practical and satisfying.
April 10th, 2010 @11:28 pm
Wooden Shoe Biker: The bike is pure white. There are some alternatives:
1. Chromed laces – whith double twisted backwheel.
2. White laces (the picture).
3. Brakehub (coaster, whith brake)
4. fixed (the picture).
All bikes ar numbered from 1-50 and there are a small silver plate with the name of the person who built the bike.
April 12th, 2010 @6:06 pm
Get a lot of snow in Sweden, don’t they? I’d be worried about loosing my bike if it looked like this.
April 12th, 2010 @8:48 pm
all it really needs is colored tires to break up the bland whiteout, though I understand this is the builders statement.DI,this is a great project and at that price,a great deal-win-win.good luck and thanks

this is a beautiful build, in my eyes the classiest way to go about a white bike. mostly all white but with touches of silver and leather.
now yes, it does borderline a “ghost bike” which are all white bikes left as memorials here in the states for fallen riders…
one thing i think could alleviate that closeness to a ghost bike as well make the whole build a bit more aesthetically perfect (at least in my opinion) would be some black tires.
i can understand the decision behind the white tires, but i honestly think black tires would look better. that bit of color contrast would create some visual interest. plus it would be just enough to get the bike out of “ghost bike” realm. that would be my only change to this build.
otherwise it is very very classy and well done.

disrespectful? the only thing disrespectful is your comment. so, because flowers are used at funerals i was thinking, its disrespectful for you to give your wife a dozen roses for valentines..so watch it! i will fight for our right to be on the rode and i respect the dead, but get over yourself.
June 17th, 2010 @8:18 am
I’m pretty sure you don’t use a dozen red roses at a funeral. This whole color debate is becoming too generalized. It’s not like you can’t use white anywhere, can’t own white clothes or drive a white car. Just a white bike, and just in the US, and seems how he’s in Sweden the debate should end there.
June 17th, 2010 @10:16 am
You think Biff’s comment is disrespectful? Why? Because he said this bike is boring? It is boring…visually anyway. Forget the fact that it’s 99% white. If it was 99% red, yellow or whatever color I’d find it just as boring. I can appreciate that in Sweden this represents something positive. And I’m all for minimalism in design….but the bottom line is it doesn’t inspire staring at it for very long. Something subtle like silver spokes with gold or bronze colored spoke nipples would have kept the minimal style but would have added just enough detail to please the eye.
June 17th, 2010 @11:14 am
And that’s what bugs me about the whole rating system, or rather the impulse behind it. Whoa dude look at the parts list, a definite 10, but wait, look at the bike. Just because you have braggable parts doesn’t mean your bike is worthy of them, especially when the final product is sort of an expensive bland, like a Jackson Pollock.
June 18th, 2010 @1:48 pm
i just think it is dumb to say “this bike is disrespectful.” i agree, the fact that he lives in sweden should make this topic go away, but even if he were in the u.s. i dont think its disrespectful. i mean, if someone wants a white bike then who cares. and if your giving your wife red roses..well, she probably would like a more unique gift. try yellow! seriously though, all of this is opinion and everyone deserves to have one. im going riding..bye.
June 18th, 2010 @2:25 pm
just curious Luft,Jackson Pollack good cause he’s expensive or expensive cause he’s good?
June 21st, 2010 @6:54 am
I saw at their website that they sell the bike with twisted lacing! wtf! strommenvelo.com
July 6th, 2010 @8:23 am
go away you piece of turd!
July 6th, 2010 @8:51 am
i like jackson pollock for his use of abstract layering @_@
i still think this is a very nice bike, but could perhaps look nice with black tires for some contrast.
July 6th, 2010 @11:22 am
the more i look at this bike, the more i like it. one thing though, if i were building a bike to sale i would probably put a machined wheel up front..when running a brake. if it were mine i wouldnt run a brake anyways but..thats me.
July 6th, 2010 @11:50 am
yes, illdthedj. It’s because I don’t really understand it that I like it.like so much of life eh?
August 12th, 2010 @10:45 pm
I think its remarkable how much a Brooks saddle and Brooks bar tape does to a build. I would agree that while very very clean and well put together, it is borderline spooky. Add the saddle and bar tape and boom, it’s in the top 10.
August 21st, 2010 @10:22 pm
This bike exhibits ownership. However, I gave it a 9 for lack of skinwall tires. Change that, and this ride will be canonical.
April 18th, 2011 @8:12 pm
the headtube angle it pretty slack………otherwise this bike lookes cheep and dull, hasent even got nice parts on it,its not up to standard that a lot of the TRACK!!!! bikes on here are, which we all usually like to see
April 19th, 2011 @9:03 am
This bike Has class. I appreciate the lack of tacky advertizing labels. Looks like a comfortable set up as well. Nice Work, still a 10 by my vote.
May 9th, 2011 @8:39 am
damned classy. not a huge fan of white bikes but this one is an exception. Ghost bikes aside, this one is clean, well done and should probably be hung on a wall instead of ridden. Seems like the owner of this one would enjoy a fine cigar and a nice glass of 18 year old scotch.
