so …as is said i stripped the old paintjob off my simonelli track frame.
as you can see im not perfectly done yet.
this is more of a work in progress picture and im also asking for other opinions.
like what to do with the drop bars. really dont know if i should just use bar tape or if i go with some keirin grips. im also not sure about the color for tape or grips.
your opinions on the project are very welcome!
love,
daniel

The chrome looks cool. As far as the drops…I don’t know if you’re into the look but if you cut the ends off Oury grips, flip’m around and slide’m up to the top of your bars they’re super comfortable and also look pretty cool. I’ve found I don’t need much grip when I’m riding in the drop position. Bare metal bars below grips looks good.

Please, don’t cut the ends off “Oury” grips, ng has no idea what he is talking about, shit’s weak. Either leave them clean or get some bar wrap and do a decent wrap job for $7.

i liked the paint better. but this is still nice. and btw, yuck is right, bar tape or bare is better than chopped ourys

as i said…keirin grips or bar wrap. i think i`ll go with bar wrap but change the track bars for normal road bars.the track bars are just too narrow if youre not riding in the dropped position.
only problem is that i really dont know which color to choose for the bar tape.
i kinda like the look of the cut ourys on drop bars. but its a total mix of dfferent styles then. still..i can understand why someone would do that. looks kinda brutal with the thick ourys.

Yuck is right…Scratch what I said about cutting Oury grips. I just checked and they’re now on the Endangered Species List.

I’d go for nitto pursuit bars, maybe anodized black?

For sure…With a Cinelli Alter stem you can literally change bars in like one minute. 3 bolts, done.
February 16th, 2010 @2:06 pm
YES! another Cinelli Alter, i have a black and silver one… i love it.

soma fabrications makes velodrama drop bars in yellow, red, white, and pink. you should check it out for a cool bare no tape look but with some color!

Hi i’m looking at stripping back my bike at the moment just wondering how you intended on treating the metal once it was fully stripped back also how did you strip it back. Sand blast or sand paper and paint stripper?
cheers
April 20th, 2010 @7:06 am
hey! i stripped the whole thing using some realy sharp razorblades…the chrome is hard enough so you cant scratch it with a razor.
i didnt treat the material after stripping the paint. this is not bare steel but its chromed steel. there is some rust appearing here and there but you can smooth that out easily. hope you understood everything. i am not a native speaker and sometimes i am missing some words xD

nice ride.I hope to strip and polish my aluminum frame this winter.Just hope it doesn’t look too Bianchi-ish.again,nice clean bike,I’d only add a brake and wrap(my call only)enjoy
April 20th, 2010 @8:40 am
there is no drilling for a brake on frame or fork.
also i enjoy riding brakeless ;D
