Ya Sure, it has nice classic lines. You did not mention the sexy Brooks saddle. The milwaukee name is done with some style. Nice colors, do you miss the front brake? I would not want to crash this baby. Thanks

Gorgeous bike, easily one of the best looking on this site.
I don’t understand how this could possibly be ranked under 8 stars.
Obviously people be jealous.

Looks great. It made me nuts to see all the parts I’d been collecting laying around, waiting for the rest. But once it finally came together it was well worth it. Congrats on a nice build.

This is a masterpiece, fuming with passion, style and grace.

Even the name has a classic ring to it. Van der Wal would be a good name also. Thanks

Beautiful looking bike. Milwaukee bikes makes some really nice looking frames. One question though. Why the top tube protector in the middle of the top tube? The bars are obviously not going to hit and even if they did they wouldn’t hit in the middle of the bike. I didn’t know if it was just for aesthetic purposes or if there was some other reason.

This is awesome. Nice work!

1) Wood Shoes: As a PhD student in chemistry, i love the name van Der Waal. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier. I think it will be a good nickname from time to time.
2) All: thanks for tall the compliments.
3) Chris: The bars do hit, the Jaguar stem is angled down and the bars are flat. The top tube protector is in the middle of the top tube because the bars are quite wide and that is where they hit. I know it may not look like it, but a track geometry also has an angled head tube, which means as you turn the handle bars they actually drop from their normal ‘latitude’. The protector isn’t as important now as it was because I have switched to cork grips. But, in case of a crash, i’m sure I will still appreciate having it there.

Is this bike in California? and did ng help build it? is the SWSS or order. Nice Wheels. I have an old Brooks B72 which is ripping at the nose and lets off black dye forever. Does anyone know if Brooks recovers frames? the chrome and frame are perfect> Thanks.

This bike is in Austin. I built it all by my lonesome. SWSS or order??? I’m unsure what you’re asking. But I do know that Brooks does recover frames. I’m not sure if its worth much of the hassle. If you are patient you can usually find new Brooks saddles for pretty cheap. I got my professional for $80 new.
Wooden shoes… what bike on here is yours?
March 15th, 2010 @8:59 pm
Hola, a Brooks B17 for 80 yes, but the professional with big copper rivets. (must he hot) SWSS is a joke, I was referring to Gold Finger and some comments. I have not posted yet, need instruction and a cord for the camera. I have two crank pullers and 16 1/2 bikes but no patience to sit down and learn the technique of adding photos to the site. Soon. What about brakes on Rockefeller? is it flat in Austin?
March 18th, 2010 @10:09 am
Yeah, Austin is very flat. When I lived in SF i rode with breaks. It also only weighs 17.5 lbs and most of the saved weight is in the wheels, so it is very easy to stop, along with a 46-16 drivetrain, I can never get going fast enough to have it a problem.
March 18th, 2010 @11:40 am
46/16 is fairly high gear, 46/18 is easier to stop of course. I ride 52/18 and still like my brake and need it but you are half my age I’m guessing and have stronger legs and a harder head. Thanks and good to see Rockefeller is still in the top Ten.

You say you can’t ever get going fast enough geared at 46>16? Really? 46>16 is 75.6 gear inches. I ride this ratio too and think it’s great all around. Accelerates quickly, not too much spin, can definitely haul ass and can still lock it up for skids. Your tires are inflated, right?…jk.

i just saw the sheriff stars, aren’t they unreliable for road usage?
April 12th, 2010 @4:39 pm
I gave it 10 (and it doesn’t even have drops!!) Subtle tones are nice. Better than bling.

I like this frame better than Kinfolk since it has a longer wheelbase , less toe snags. I would like a brake still.
May 10th, 2010 @6:36 am
I like Kinfolk because of the sharper goemetry, though this is nicely done.the bars are wanting but I can see their uses on a cruiser style ride.

that gold nitto was a nice touch
