Put this bike together, thinking I was only going to switch out the tires, bars, and seat, but I ended up switching everything out except for the seatpost and the headset. oops.
Key upgrades:
Mavic Open Pro wheelset
Sugino RD crankset
Brooks b-17 saddle + matching tape
nitto jitensha bars

really nice just put some straps on it.

Looks great. Biff is right though. Clips on a fixed gear are useless without straps, as they’re only function is to hold the strap open so you can insert your foot. Especially brakeless.

They also keep your feet in the right position on the pedals and help pushing forward in the upper dead spot. Straps alone wouldn’t. Still there’s no reason for clips without straps.

thanks for the comments—the clips are the mks half-clips and they are working pretty good sans straps (they actually don’t even have loops for straps) because they are super deep. (there’s more tire overlap than usual, but still manageable) also, since it’s my around town/commuter i run super low gearing—either 41×17 or 41×18 (fixed/fixed) so there’s not a whole lot of pedal pressure anyway and i can stop/start/skid super easy.

I Love this bike…apart from the horrible non-quill stem.
