I actually got this bike new in 1990, and dug it out of storage the other week. Schwinn/Paramount 434, cut off all the cable guides and derailleur hanger, filled in the bottle and shifter mounts, stripped and clearcoated, had to remake the wedge mechanism for the seatpost as the original Sakae one had cracked, slapped on these corny wheels, filed out the drops to allow for chain tensioning, and finished it off with an old-school bontrager titanium handlebar. Nothing fancy, but a pretty comfortable ride!

well I cant make my mind up on this,on one hand its the type of thing I would do,on the other hand its the type of thing I would do….you can see the bind Im in…the wheels, fat wheels, skinny frame I think thats the off part for me,a set of polished alloy hub/rims with classic 36h lacing, tyres with red logo to tie in with the bar tape?I dont know, been thrown sideways with this,I think it may be hated on but I sort of like it,hands up who files the dropouts, yer Im guilty,I have done it a few times but seem to get repromanding side glances when I do it,like Im a puppy been caught shitting on the carpet,f**k em its called inovation

The 434′s were designed by the paramount team but were not paramounts. Schwinn never made and aluminum paramount. Cutting braze-ons and hangers is a sin and if this had been a paramount would be a freaking crime. The bike looks nice but I can’t get passed the frame defilement.

I own a 974, All aluminum + Alumimum Fork. Some modeles came with steel fork. Cinelli stem & handlebars, All Shim 600 drive & brakes, Wolber aeros Shwinn Panarace 19 tires. Was the proto for the Klien. Very Fast every ounce of enrgy goes to the road. No flex.

all depends on what you call a Schwinn and what’s a Paramount.I believe there was a run of Al Paramounts built under Schwinn control.Anyway.this seems a waste of a great frame.Besides, you should never grind on AL tubing, weakens it considerably .grinding off bits is for steel only(OK,maybeTI).also this all white shows no respect or class.

i agree with ryanb… i think araya golds would rock this frame out. it may just be me, but i’m kinda tired of deep-v’s…you’re adding weight, while trying to lose weight…makes no sense… pretty bike, however, minimalism would win.

i like it!
perhaps just one more touch of red somewhere.
im usually not a fan of colored chains….but i think a red chain on this would be cool!

I really dig this one a lot and don’t really care about the frame “defilement”. It’s his bike, after all. This reminds me of my ride with the thicker tubing in front with what looks like a steel fork based on it’s size. I agree that low profile rims would look way better on this—the whole deep v craze is based solely on aesthetics and in my opinion ride worse than box rims. I would also up play the red with some nice red tires. Cheerios.

Great looking frame. I don’t think I could have cut off the cable guides and hanger. It just seems wrong.
