I really like your cat.

Ruff crowd for a cute bike. I like it…all goes together well.
March 29th, 2011 @10:47 am
Thanks JaKrazyM8, you got it!
She’s Asian so you’ll understand the slightly over-the-top “Hello Kitty” cuteness of it. It’s also small, a 47 size frame.

I love chick bikes like this.
March 29th, 2011 @7:32 pm
I’m extremely jealous of your Sphynx.. I plan on getting one soon. Cute bike too
March 29th, 2011 @11:44 pm
Haha yes the cat is adorable. The funny thing about Sphynxes is they don’t seem to realize that they are cats.

Lovely interior! (and lovely bike for a girl) 8*
March 30th, 2011 @9:57 am
Man, this is one of the uglyest bikes I have ever seen! Geometry, colours, colour mix. Or is a 1:20 scale model that came with your Barbie?
March 30th, 2011 @10:20 am
@As Wicked, hahahaha!
Like it or not at least it looks like the toy it is intended to look like, as you suggest.
March 30th, 2011 @2:20 pm
好き
Yum. My teeth hurt just from looking at it.
March 30th, 2011 @7:14 pm
As Wicked.. It’s a girl bike dude.. It’s kind of in it’s own class of what’s acceptable.
March 30th, 2011 @10:54 pm
Well, it isn’t. Thera are many ugly bikes out there, but most of them are cheap. Someone spent a lot of money to build this, and spent it badly.
March 31st, 2011 @2:13 am
Of course these are all just opinions.. One (this girl) might think this is the best possible set up ever, while another (you) might think it’s wack. I have to say if I saw a chick cruise by on this bike I would have to give her props.
March 31st, 2011 @5:48 am
I love that this bike probably is exactly what she likes and wants, and if that keeps her on it then all the better! Riding fixed is by far dominated by guys and its nice to know that more ladies are getting into it. I plan on building a rediculus Celeste/white bike for my wife soon. The only thing I would change would be to match up those wheels. Either both Aerospokes or both regular spokes, im not into the mismatch. 8* for me.

I love how the most bunk-ass conversion will get all kinds of love on here while a well-thought out/built bike will receive hate. Yes, it’s a “girl bike” but that doesn’t necessarily call for sexist comments either (looking at you Nick O). She built her bike exactly how she wanted it and that gets props from me – even if it is a VISP (Timewin Precision Industries = VISP, btw).
March 31st, 2011 @7:26 am
@As Wicked I don’t think you are in a position to know whether this money was well spent or not. You should see Suki’s smile when riding it. Or of course, you might think happiness isn’t a good way to spend money, in which case I will rest my case.
March 31st, 2011 @7:38 am
@scrodzilla “I love how the most bunk-ass conversion will get all kinds of love on here while a well-thought out/built bike will receive hate.” Right on!
It is also fun to see people with all kinds of freewheel or coaster brake fixed gear-ish creations see her ride, skid and trackstand and realize they’ve been shown how to properly ride a minimal bike by a girl. Suki doesn’t ride crazy fast but she has all the skills to get the most out of this setup. Looking at some bikes here, this girl is more purist than many.
(& That’s correct, VISP and Timewin come from the same factory. This one came without any VISP decals and only timewin on the box so I wasn’t sure, but yes they’re essentially the same. It’s pretty much the quality of Leader, only cheaper because it went out of the back door of the factory.)
March 31st, 2011 @7:45 am
Oh btw I don’t take Nick O’s comment as sexist. It is a girl’s bike and was meant as such. Less built for speed, more for comfy rolling (thick tyres) and an all-out girly look.
Older setup with cheap-ass rear wheel but with girl in question: http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/180570_1688869936538_1081402093_1757573_412081_n.jpg

Sure, if it’s exactly the way she wants it to be, that’s great, But I still have the right to find it ugly. This is the kind of bike everybody refers to as being hipster crap. Now only because it is a girl’s bike it’s not? Come on. You’re all sexists.
I don’t care about how much anybody invested in a bike. I just think it’s sad to see, that somebody invested a lot and could have gotten sometihng much more beautiful out of that amount of money. Last week I saw a girl (!) with a beautiful red colnago conversion. Very clean. And the most important thing is it had style. This bike here doesn’t
March 31st, 2011 @11:25 am
As the saying goes — Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It’s pointless to debate things like style and appearances as they are a matter of opinion and personal taste.
Aswicked, what the fuck do you care about someone you don’t know spending their money on what they like? Calling her bike “hipster crap” makes you sound like a stuck up asshole. Our bikes are extensions of ourselves. You’re basically insulting her. If we were to judge based only on appearances then I’d say you’re a boring, kind of dull guy with a bunch of money who doesn’t know a thing about color. Get over yourself.
March 31st, 2011 @11:53 am
@As Wicked you’re contradicting yourself. You said it was a waste of money.
For the cash you put in your bike I would have done something radically different: Tight clearances and stiffness are everything to me and your wheels are far away from your frame. Not the kind of ride I’d go for, if I could fine a frame with tighter clearances than mine I’d buy it. It also makes no sense to have an expensive titanium frame and make it heavier with older parts, but hey, does that mean your bike is crap? Of course not. Get off it mate.
As for any conversion, they’re the stuff to start out with. I did. But truth be told they’re crap to ride, horribly inefficient and clumsy compared to a true track frame. Even the nicest conversion still is just a conversion. A sheep in wolf’s clothes.
@ng Thanks for sticking up, I agree.
March 31st, 2011 @12:33 pm
@ng: Grow up and read carefully. I didn’t insult anybody. In opposite to you. I just said, that I find it ugly. And that’s it. And as you said, it’s in the eye of the beholder. So it should be my right to express my opinion. If you’d read exactly what I wrote, I never called this bike “hipster crap”. I wrote that is is the kind of bike, people here keep refering to being it. IT WAS A COMPLAINT ABOUT EVERYBODY GOING BLIND JUST BECAUSE IT’S A GIRL’S BIKE.
What gave you the impression that I have a lot of money? I don’t. That’s why it bothers me, that people spend it on things they will find ugly themselves when it’s out of fashion in two years.
Colourwise I see three slightly different tones of pink in this bike, but not really matching and a silver (!) saddle on a mostly white build. Then there’s an Aerospoke in celeste, which is a nice coulour when it’s the only one (like on an old Bianchi frame with a campy group set), because it draws all the attention on it. Mixing it with such a flashy colour as pink or any colour can only be done by someone who didn’t experience the eighties. By the way, even the guys at Bianchi think that celeste is an ugly colour. Make your own opinion who doesn’t know a thing about colours if you think this is a good match.
@Suki: I honestly want to apologize, if I offended you. I didn’t mean it. Or maybe you weren’t at all and it was just your boyfriend, who built your bike? What I like about your bike is, that it apparently makes you happy. And that’s what matters. But that’s it, sorry. And I don’t think it has to be more, just because you are a girl. I’d rather be honest than a phoney brownnoser.
@ng again: What do you post your bike for on myfixedgear? It’s about learning what people think about your bike, right? And not everybody will like it. Maybe nobody. Just as not everybody likes my bike. But what do I care. I like it. I worked on it for two years and it is just the way I want it to be. And if somebody makes a good suggestion I will think it over or not. And if somebody makes a joke I will laugh about it or not. And if somebody offends me for no reason he can KISS MY ASS, because he doesn’t know me.
March 31st, 2011 @1:37 pm
@Peter: I didn’t see your post earlier.
What do you need the tight clearances for? To get a wheelbase of 93 cm and mess around with toe overlap? Please explain. I’m dying to hear if you know, what a tight clearance is good for and why you need it. Do you track race?
I don’t know if you ever rode my frame, I’m perfectly sure you didn’t. This is really stiff shit. Nothing compared to a steel frame. A shorter wheelbase would be only possible with steeper steering and seat angles, which would make it even more unforgiving. You can not just transfer what you know about steel frames to an aluminum, titanium or carbon frame. And I don’t race in keirin races, so I don’t need that super tight wheelbase anyway. About the components: I am a realist enough to admit that 800 gramms less would not make me that much faster. That is not my class. For Hoy and Co this may be true, but I’m not a pro. I’m not into superlight components as superlight components tend to break, so I rather take a few gramms more and can rely on my bike. And I don’t just enjoy riding my bike but also looking at it. Shiny beautifully crafted aluminum is much more enjoyable for me than plastc carbon stuff. Believe me it is still light enough.
March 31st, 2011 @3:25 pm
I have to say VISP is not the same quality of leader… Anyhow, Im just wondering… if this happened to be a dudes bike would some of you still like it? The way I see it, who gives a shit who rides it… if its ugly its ugly and if its tight its tight. Not my cup of tea but again, who am I?
March 31st, 2011 @5:04 pm
Visp the same quality as Leader? They wish! Maybe they are better than they were(they’d almost have to be) but not even in the same league as Leaders.
March 31st, 2011 @5:25 pm
and As Wicked-Celeste is ugly!! Careful there son, them’s fightin’ words LOL.cheers
March 31st, 2011 @6:18 pm
1) I’m not a sexist.. I’m just being realistic. Calling a girl’s bike girly or Barbies girly doesn’t make you a sexist.. I think. Besides, Nick O is down with the bitches and the hoes *OBVIOUSLY KIDDING*
2) @Monsterarm – If a guy was riding this I would probably hate on him.. again, just being realistic.
3) NG, You’re my boy Blue!
Now everyone calm themselves
March 31st, 2011 @6:45 pm
i just think its ugly period. Not anymore ugly if a dudes on it than if a chick is on it. Either way, none of us are right. to each there own.
March 31st, 2011 @6:48 pm
I personally think any bike with two different color tires is gross… I hate it but again, if thats what you like do it, don’t mean i gotta like it!
March 31st, 2011 @6:50 pm
oh and VISP=dogshit… I found that out by trying one out. Put those nice part on a deserving frame. Thats what i did and it made a world of difference for the better… just saying.
March 31st, 2011 @9:13 pm
The new leader 725′s ain’t bad. Maybe upgrade the frame sometime in the future? With more spokes in the front? Nice set up though; clean.
April 1st, 2011 @4:41 am
Haha wow what a fuss. Anyway..
@sloman what is the fundamental quality difference between VISP and Leader? They even use some of the same pre-fab materials. The price difference is really only in the fact that Leader and it’s distributors also need a cut. My friend has a Leader, I see them side by side regularly.
@as wicked I don’t need a tight wheelbase and stiffness but I love it. As a purist I am not into “forgiving” and toe overlap just comes with short frames, one gets used to it easily. But hey, to each his own. You have a great bike I’m just pointing out that “thruths” may vary. Oh and BTW we lived the eighties, I even lived a few months of the seventies. We’re 30 and 31.
As for the bike having a cheap frame, our initial goal was to build a complete bike for under 500 just to see whether she liked riding fixed. So went for VISp and Eighthinch Amalia wheels. Wheels soon proved inadequate for street riding so we upgraded to the current set. If there’s going to be an upgrade it would be into a classical frame, but we have other hobbies too.
As for judging the bike differently when it’s a girl’s bike: I certainly appreciate the thought to judge everything the same. My personal view is that as with other girl accessories like bags, shoes, phone covers, etc there is a big difference. So why not with bikes?
@As wicked Suki is not here to reply (traveling atm) but kudos for publicly apologizing, you show good character.
