Really sweet bike, but your brake lever is on the wrong side.
August 2nd, 2011 @7:56 am
I always find it odd that most people I see using that lever have it mounted wrong. Nice bike nonetheless.

yah scrod i have one and notice people installing it wrong moreso than right. totally defeats the purpose of it really. you want the long side going over the stem so your fingers can actually grip it from the other side. i really like them tho if you have it installed correctly….it feels like since one lever is longer and one shorter that the shorter lever is better for taking off speed and the long one for harder stops…more leverage.
anywho the build is probably a really nice bike, but its hard to tell from the crap photos…well, the photos look nice, but only if you can squint past all the blatant low res pixelation. i love chrome lugs, wish there were some crisper photos.

So far the best bike i have seen on this site! Good job.

pleez! not even top ten picture wise, nice but not best.steel seatpost,3/8 chain(hard to tell due to crappy pics but three arm Shimano),conversion and the obligatory Brooks.again-nice but hardly breathtaking compared to say Kinfolk(any of several)or even a few of the trackers.
August 13th, 2011 @1:38 pm
@sloman
so you claim
August 13th, 2011 @1:58 pm
no slu, that is called my opinion. If your opinion is different, cool. A claim is a statement of fact, not personal opinion. I think those bikes look better thah this.I think the Brooks is overused to the point of being part of the “fixed formula”.And MY opinion is that any Kinfolk on here is a better looker than an overdone, under photograghed Raleigh conversion if this is indeed a conversion. Hope you understand the difference between opinion and decree.cheers
August 13th, 2011 @4:20 pm
The prose improves. Thank you sloman. Now about your rhetoric. Slu is correct. You make claims. See above example: “not in the top-ten, nice but not best.” Those are claims. I love the Kinfolk-aesthetic but to me they’re over-priced and too stiff for the street. Thats an opinion. Mine. Don’t let me get you down. Keep hating. Just do it in English, logically and with your usual panache. Love the hate.
August 14th, 2011 @7:04 am
don’t really see the difference.the opinion is implyed and I guess I assume it was a given. Well we all know the old rube about assume. This site is getting too thin skinned. Unless the latest dayglow strapless Visp wannabe with naked bars is showered with Praise as the best of the best the whiners start bitching and pouting, throwing their shit at the walls and labeling people Nazis . Screw it. Build shit and tell each other how hip and wonderful they are.
August 14th, 2011 @7:36 am
@sloman: a little bitchy but getting there. Keep it up. I dislike those frames too but I think if I was a real track racer on a tight budget they might make sense. I enjoy watching the evolving trends. I’m not about to rip the tape off my handle bars. My gut says its a fashion statement -but what isn’t? No-tape bars sure keeps a bike uncluttered. And thats a hallmark on this site. Clean and simple. One thing we all agree on. I’m keeping my bar tape anyway.
I also noticed that bikes from the southern hemisphere (Argentina etc.) tend to have slack(er) chains then where I live. A trend or a convention?
NOTE: A claim is statement of fact or truth. “The bicycle is red.” “The bicycle is in the top ten.” An opinion may also be a statement but is a measured estimation from a particular perspective. “Sloman is the one with the thin-skin.” “Sloman calls out shit bikes but his arguments lack rigor and manages to infuriate everyone with his confusing, name-calling snipping.” “Sloman is a turd.” These (of course) are just examples. Sloman is not a turd.

Yes he is.

is that a statemebt or an opinion(he asked warily). oh and nice tan there scrod.
August 15th, 2011 @7:58 am
Yeah, I’ve been working on it. Thanks for noticing!

I can’t tell the true color of this one. Some pics it looks black, others almost like… brown metal fleck? Haters Hate but it seems sometimes that people don’t realize NOT everyone builds a bike from the ground up… some times, you have to start with what’s available, affordable, or just, what you’ve got to work with. I think that the choices you made dressing up this bike were great. It has a very smooth look with the leather and silver. I also like the geometry and your specific set up. seat height and bar position are perfect.
Ya done good kid, ya done good.
Sloman is a turd? That’s mean. You guys know he’s just bitter because he can’t ride anymore, right?

This looks nice. I think. You can call Brooks a fixed cliche but the “fact” (I better careful, grammar police) is that Brooks has been around longer than the so-called fixed gear trend. That said, I see where sloman is coming from. There are other manufacturers of leather saddles. Another point I want to make is that conversions belong in the top ten, too, because not everyone can afford or prefers track frames. That said, if this is converted it has pretty tight gaps. Does it belong in the top ten? Debatable. Top 25? Sure. I like the Dia Compe Shot Lever. If I’m not mistaken, that should be mounted just left of the stem correct? Overall nice build, poor photos.
