On one hand I like blackouts(some of’m) because of their lack of “flash”…which I think there’s too much of out there. On the other hand they run the risk of being boring. The gold hubs saves it for me on this one. I’d like a gold bar too though. Looks like a flat bar. In defense of risers(Slo)…which I thought I’d never like…I took a 30 mile ride with risers the other day and was really surprised at how comfortable they are.
I have to agree with ng on this one. There is something really low key about a blackout. And yet a spot of color can really help – say a different color DeepVs. Or grips as slo said. But I don’t want to destroy this either. It’s not a bad build at all. Just a little unimaginative. As a side note – I snapped a cable on a cable-hanger-brake the other day and had to ride from 59th and 1st to the lower east side without a brake (3.5 miles / 5k) in traffic. It gave me a new perspective on bikes with no brakes. Fundamentally it confirmed to me how fricking crazy it is and how completely irresponsible it is. I am sure I will have daniel’s foot in my ass within 30 minutes, but I am sorry, unless you are on a track, there is no excuse whatsoever to ride brakeless.
it’s definitly a nice build but borrrrring.the gold, it’s just enough to tease.and yes,I know risers have their place.Blackouts were cool the first thousand but at this point they are not very exciting no matter what.only a little color would go a long way.say, blue wrapped bulls and blue tread or striped tires.POP goes the fixie!
Agreed this is low key but it can be low key with more than one color. Having said that, I’ve seen worse blackouts. The turbo, straight bar, gold hubs, and radial lacing look great. The deep v’s are predictable. Sloman, you really should just let the “riser” thing go. I don’t like drop bars but I don’t make comments like “drop bars, lame” on every post with drop bars. Everyone has different preferences and physiology, and what’s best for one person undoubtedly will be the worst for another; neither of which are superior to the other.

co-sign w/ bad on a much smaller scale it’s like when jesse james (the motorcycle builder not the gun slinger) painted his ferrari flat black. gangsta.
Yeah Sup, it was definitely a classy move on Vamm’s part.
My old boss who had a V12 AMG S-Class and debadged it, his logic was pretty sound, I know that I’ve got a nice car, why do I need to advertise that to the world?
Of course some people go the opposite route and add M3 badges and a body kit to their 330′s. The 330 is a good car and most people would be very happy to drive one. Adding M3 badges and a body kit just demonstrates that the driver is a totally insecure douche. Plus anyone who knows cars can almost immediately tell the difference, the break calipers are usually a dead give away.
I do not understand, what is wrong with not having brakes?? Fixed gears have brakes, its called a skid. If you are a decent enough a rider, an ugly caliper brake isn’t necessary. This is a great looking bike. Riding brakeless keeps you on your toes, and doesn’t turn you into a lazy old fart.
track bikes are brakeless because brakes arn’t allowed on the track. but taking a track bike onto the street changes the environment you are riding in drastically. ride brakeless fixed on the street if you want, but your stopping distance will never be as short as it would be if you had a hand brake. you can be the best rider ever but that still dosn’t change the fact that there are tons of horrible drivers who will pull out in front of you because they arn’t looking….not to mention a kid/runner/pet jumping out in front of you. in split second reactions, getting that extra bit of braking power can mean the difference between a close call and getting into an accident.
Such a dead subject could be ended by these arrogant fools coming to Portland and trying to ride anywhere between September and May. Let’s see how well you can skid in the pouring rain, jackasses.
@WSB-yes the type of wording fits?one name fades away, another fades in very suble like, almost unnoticed, keyword PORTLAND?could this be a “MOVE THAT BUS!” moment, the big reveal?
No time for TV . Hooked on bikes and the Gods of Fixed Gear. @ FAB can you elaborate about the brake cable failure. Was it a center pull brake wire yoke ? I need my brake and sometimes worry about that single wire for the caliper. Alan Flint also mentioned anchor on cable separating. CS talked about the rear as the back up. I don’t like clutter but I like my face more or less and avoid Chimpanzee s and brick walls.
Ryan.thats a sure sign of older and wiser(thinking of what if’s).Congrats.Although in 40+ years I have only broken 1 brake cable, several calipers have snapped, one going into the spokes still attached to the cable. And chains do break, though I’ve never broken a track -fixie one.So one brake should suffic percentage wise.enjoy
On a used Specialized bike, my daughter snapped a cable as she fell down. She was 13 at the time and not super strong or too weak. I replaced the cable. Possibly the cable had rubbed or frayed on a sharp bend, not sure and the seller used a lot of parts to cobble this bike together. He is a tinkerer and sells cheap. Waiting to hear from Fab about the cable snap in NY. Thanks
@SLO-40 must be the number of wiseness,I will be hitting the big 4-0 after xmas, but you are only as young as you feel so in unreality terms I am about 27.5 (I wish)

Kudos on having a Mash frame and then painting over the logos. You get a 10 from me purely on that basis.

I like the hint of Gold with the hubs. I’m a big fan of black bikes. I do like them to have a little contrast.Very cool frame; looks quick.
