This is one of the nicest MASHes I’ve seen. Well done sir!

yah a really well done build. very nice wheelset, cranks, thomson seatpost and stem, fizik saddle…yah i cant find anything wrong with this build. smartly done

an actual track bike,wow!!
October 19th, 2011 @4:39 pm
interesting what defines an “actual track bike”. clearly not designed for the track.
October 20th, 2011 @3:28 am
well just a bike that is used on the track, as a proper track bike the mash/histo is not very good, would need shorter wheelbase, not sloping top tube and not so beefed up seatstays as they are for skidding me thinks, the BB area would be beefed up more if it wher proper track as far as a modern frame goes
October 20th, 2011 @1:14 pm
Quite low gearing for track use as well. But hat’s wrong with the sloping toptube? Short wheelbase is only interesting for keirin races. It’s beefed up because it’s made from aluminum.
I like the frame. And I like the build. Still. Unfortunately soon we will have 20 more post of histograms looking just like this because it is probably the only good looking way to build it. Good for you you’re the first…

just curious, not trying to be an asshat i swear:
what is the point to sloping top tubes? er, forward sloping to be precise…i was under the assumption it was for a lower leaning, more “aero” riding position…is that true?
October 20th, 2011 @1:31 pm
just for looks i think, my understanding is its a persuit frame and all keirin frames iv seen have flat top tubes so there must be a reason
October 20th, 2011 @9:56 pm
sloping top tube = more aero (in theory). but this is for looks.

sloping top tube lets the rider get lower in the drops while raising the seatpost-junction under the saddle and exposing less post. That makes the frame stronger and puts less stress on a lightweight post. Stem on this could be lower(ouch!) for track cred and seat higher but it depends on if you like chiroprators. A nice Mash for sure. Keirin bikes are steeper because the tracks are smaller(tighter turns)and riders smaller(less toe overlap). Different horses for different courses.

With a 650 front wheel and TT/pursuit bars that literally forces the rider down in the drops, a sloping top tube is more “aero”.
On the Hipstogram its only for looks.
But then again, if you tuck your shirt in you become more areo to!
I belive that one reason for keirin frames being tighter is that they run up to 9 riders in a heat and you need a really fast handling bike to deal with the aggressive racing enviroment that keirin racing is, not that they run on shorter tracks..
February 17th, 2012 @8:15 am
agressive riding is a fact everywhere, not just Japan. They do have tracks as short as 400 and 500 meters. That is tight, even more so with 9 riders hammering.
February 17th, 2012 @9:32 am
Wicked. I know the frames are spendy but it looks worth it.
February 17th, 2012 @10:04 am
@Sloman..Yes agreed, but Keirin has a very high tolerance for contact between racers, even as far as leaning or pressing on other riders to get ahead or a better position. And they wear protective armour under their jerseys

Yikes!!
