1945 Track frame equipped with a Sturmey Archer ASP (3 speed close ratio fixed hub). No coasting, gives me gearing of approx 58, 70, 78 gear inches. Set up with dry condition cyclocross tires, Nervar cranks, phil bb, a schmidt generator hub, titan stem and bars, and an old wright swallow saddle. Won ‘08 Santa Cruz Wildcat fixed gear category on this thing.

Woah, is this a special 3 speed hub or did you modify it to be fixed??? If its modified how exactly did you do it. We have a ton of 3 speed hubs at our shop and that would make a couple of AWESOME bikes!!!!!

this is sweet…
super vintage, the sturmey archer 3 speed is very interesting, the saddle fits very well, the saddle even has its own backpack! lol…also really digging the stem/handlebar combo. even that light is great.
really dig it!

Hey CS, check this out. It’s only a two speed conversion but it’s better then nothing. It seemed a quite a bit of work and my attention span faded before I finished reading the write up. lol

Nice poot! I think I have another project now. Man is there anything sheldon brown didn’t know??! It’s too bad he’s not around anymore. Talk about a heavy loss for the cycling community.

is this really a fixed gear or a 3 speed? It says no coasting but short of PB fill I can’t see how to fit the locker on a SA hub. What am I missing CS?I have a few old rusty hubs too.

Can you imagine this combo on a newer frame or aluminum light weight ?killer

It’s an interesting concept, but it doesn’t exactly fit the single speed requirement. Fixed or not the thing has three speeds and a shifter. Which isn’t to say I wouldn’t ride it, it would definitely be a unique experience, but as far as putting the money and labor into a sort of three speed, sort of fixed gear, probably wouldn’t happen for me.
