This was a 10 speed 80′s bike i turned it into a single speed, with a mix of old and new parts.
Dia-compe stem.
Sansin front hub.
Velo Steel coaster brake hub.
Shimano 600 crankarms.
New chain, chairing, handlebar and fork.
New dark blue paint job.
Removed paint from the rims.
This is my first build, tried to go for a more sober look.
Cheers from Brazil.

Very VERY nice. How is that velo steel? I hear not such good things about them.

Thanks! I can’t tell you it’s a good product, i’ve tried about 3 different brands of coaster brake hubs, and so far this seems to be the least worst one, i’ve seen good reviews from Shimano’s though, i gotta try it.

Go fixed and never go back. Stunning build.

I like it all but the bright blue chain.

The guys in Holland I know don’t really like the velo and say they replace the guts with shimano once they go bad. I’m not sure how thats possible. Same size? I’ve also read good things about the velo, so who knows? Don’t let the fixie-dykes get to you. You can have more than one bike. Coaster brakes are a great change of pace.

Coaster brakes are usually cheap, so it’s easy to replace it anyway. I live in a beach town, a lot of beach cruisers and coaster brakes around, this bike is meant to for that.
But i feel like i gotta try riding fixed, so i’m building one, all brand new parts though. Nothing too fancy and no bright colors, nothing against it but i’m not a fan of the hi-tech look on the street.

Just had to replace the Shimano CB hub ,it locked solid. Using a HiStop that looks identical but is much lighter. To be honest bought it ’cause it was dirt cheap($9),but it seems ok so far(400 miles). To be fair the Shimano was old and off a beach bike. Might try fixing it just for learning. Sure ate the tire up when it locked at about 25mph. Coasters are so cool for a change up if you can have multiple rides.

jqnyc, the system is pretty much the same on all coaster brakes so i guess it’s possible to swith parts between brands.
sloman, my Velo Steel is beggining to fail, might try Shimano, $19 on Amazon, if you wanna know how coaster brake works here’s a link, there’s also a pdf file with all the steps: http://www.elegantwheels.net/VELOSTEEL.html

not a fan of the chain nor the chain wheel, but I like everything else. Nice build.

Not a fan of coaster brake. Was fun. When I was 5.

The paint on this bike is BEAUTIFUL! Coaster brakes leave the frame uncluttered of levers, cables and calipers. I like the resulting track bike look. For the same reason, I would have removed the braze-ons; but this is a very minor quibble.

“Coaster brakes leave the frame uncluttered of levers, cables and calipers.”
So do brakeless fixed gears.
