This is my first ever fixed gear conversion and first ever fixed gear. I only just got into the whole fixie thing and my dad had an old bike lying around so I decided to do it up.
I stripped the paint, grinded off the brake cable holders and shifter thing on the down tube, sanded it down then did a hell of a lot of spray painting. After that I grinded the chainring bolts, cut the drop bars and grinded the rear cog because it was too fat and wouldn’t fit in the chain
I’m only 14 so i don’t really have much money so I practically spent all I had to do this. In total I think I spent around $150 but I still haven’t really got it where I want it yet and would like to buy a few other things like pedals, a brake lever and tyres. I’ll have to wait a bit till I get the money.
Since I got school and stuff I didn’t have all the time in the world and it took me about 2 weeks to prepare and paint. It was fun, and I’d love to do it again!
I don’t really know much history about the bike; my dad bought it from a work mate for around $200 because the guy was too fat to ride it. It was in real good condition and the tyres had pretty much new. Dad says it was a real good ‘sports bike’ and his friend got it for over $700. My dad has had it for maybe 10 years. It had a sticker saying it came from Cheltenham cycle centre and that about all I know
The only part I have bought for the bike so far is the wheelset. Everything else on it is original from the bearings to the tyres and chain. I also bought a bike specific tool box which was useful because i tried everything to get the crank arms off.
I pretty much painted everything but the pedals, and wheelset, it’s either painted the darker ocean blue or the bluey silver pacific blue hammer finish. I even sprayed the bottom bracket, headset, chainring and handlebars. The frame is kinda big though, i measured it to be about 59cm and i’m still small!
It rides real fast, sometimes too fast downhill – I nearly died the other night because my feet cam

nicely done, better get some bar tape and some pedal retention and/or a front brake or you may not live to build another.

if you’re small for the bike, then the drops would have been perfect. 4 for the looks, 4 for a job well done.
cool story, bro.

hey there, good to see your getting into track bikes, first thing, watch out, star wheels have quando hubs and are quite weak, get a brake on asap, if you wanna ride brakeless, id buy yourself a nice rear hub and some decent straps, id go leather double or some thicker straps ( i run holdfast) but there are heaps of cheaper alternatives, good luck with it hope you get heaps of enjoyment out of it
