@david: perhaps its the economy? I agree. What is this thing? Perhaps a pursuit/triathlon/velodrome/budget-commuter hybrid? I suppose if you are in a few different events all on the same day, after work, and you can’t use different bikes because your downsized? If it works for the rider then god bless.
I think it’s a Trek District (Google it). While they look weird, they’re made well and are pretty decent “commuter” type bikes. Definitely not my cup of tea though.
It is a “langster” that has been powder coated. I know most of you are bike snobs so I don’t care about the comments but the walmart one is just ignorance. What you all would like is if I took the brakes off since “real men” ride without brakes, but that is not a wise option in my area with all the hills. You might not like the setup but it is done with great parts and the bike is used in the past for multiple things from fixed gear races to short rides to work. Most of the time it was on a trainer with aero bars during the winter. Judge away.
Its not bad i would like to see the bars a bit shorter but i dont mind the frame. Guys it is a langster the top tube on a trek district is a diff shape. I think it is used to commute so i bet it would be comfortable. the title is wrong but its not as bad as some of you all say
Frame: Powder Coated 2005 Langster
Bars and Brakes: Profile Design T2 Wing Bar and Carbon Aero Levers
Brakes: Shimano Ultegra
Saddle: Selle Italia Slk Gel Flow
Tires: Hutchinson Fusion Carbons
Cranks: Sugino Messenger

go ahead and hate on it it is mostly used to train for tri, i just took of the aero bars

economy could be one thing, but you can get an 09 lager for pretty cheap these days (at least where i live) which seem nicer than this. however if the owner likes it, ride on!
Sloman. I got the “Langster” frame for fifteen dollars, knocked out the dings and powder coated it myself. Thirty dollars total. I ride for a tri team and took the headset, bars and carbon levers off of my last year “Cervelo p3.” The cranks where in a box and the pedals were my wife’s, they are crank brothers. The seat post is a “Thomson” and the stem is a stock Specialized. The brakes are to suit her when I ride at night, but having a wife might be past you. They are still “ultegra” and good enough for the bike. It spends 90% on a trainer since I do more than talk about bikes, I ride them. Besides i have seen yours, it is good looking and a decent build. I like it. I will take advice from you, the expert, where to get a frame for that price. A link is much appreciated. I will keep my eye out for that. I doubt you will come through. Total cost to build the bike $95.
Thrifty. We like thrifty. $15 frame that you restored? Ultegra, Carbon levers, Thompson seat post -all for $95? David Blain would be proud. We, who are about to spend, salute you.
all you guys need to calm down the parts he says look like he is telling the truth. if so this is a great cheap build using parts around like you all say is mandatory to make a good bike. i bet half of you need to take of the chucks or bright shoes, relax the pants so your balls can breath and mostly remove the thick rimmed glasses, thats if they actually have a prescription in them. i like this build it is bland but works and that is all that matters. you all try so hard to judge people on their fix and their handlebars it makes me sick. i wish i could period on all of you assholes.
jqnyc – I do this amazing thing, wait for it, save parts from old bikes. I don’t have to spend much to build a new bike. Ney, I salute you and the hope that in your future builds understand that. May grace be with you.
Creative accounting. We like creative accounting. We also like whistling in the dark. Sir, please come clean with the price paid for this two-wheeler. Whats the frequency Kenneth?
It is dialed in and you could hear all the R.E.M. that you want to. The bike build cost is the right amount and what bothers you is that I rode expensive bikes before this and that I transfered parts. Some of the parts were even bought from other riders that had used them but mostly from my team who gave them to me to ride. That makes it even better because they were free. When I do the math free parts are a a zero in a ledger. Sorry for being in shape and better than you on a bike. I am sorry to this entire site, I will sleep better now that my non lie is taken care of. jqnyc i am so glad you are around to help me and bring me to your level. I feel so bad for working my entire life to be great as a racer.
thanks
Kenneth,I didn’t mean it was a bad build. Ya ,I lean away from conversions as a rule but for that price good on ya. I’m doing a budget build now and even useing wheels I built and had I don’t think I’ll beat two bills so ninety five is great. My point was that unless the conversion frame is cheap or free ,no-name trackers make sense.cheers. oh,google Crosslake frames for a great deal on a frame. I was pleasantly surprised. Just a chromotracker with nothing to shave or paint,a real blank sheet.
Free is good. We like free. Barter is usually more accurate description but we can call it free if you like. I’m a “no free lunch” kind of person but, whatever you say. At the risk of sounding like I’m changing the subject. Tell us about the ride. This looks like an uphill climber to me. The “frequency” line was more of a Dan Rather reference. R.E.M.? Is that bike snob speak?
Sloman, this is not my preferred frame but it was the best situation at the right time and it was an experience to powder coat. It was a fun build and i love riding it outside which does not happen enough. I spend to much time on a trainer and for anyone that does that you know.
Jqync it was not a barter it was straight free. when you ride for someone you keep stuff and some of the parts made me all the more lucky. Sorry if you still cant get that. No problem
Wait a second, you ride FOR someone? Sounds like a job to me. Keep stuff? As in stolen? No, I appreciate where you’re coming from. I guess I’m too cynical and enjoy the banter. Call it a labor of love then? $95 out of pocket and a little elbow grease for a ride you really enjoy? Bravo to you.
“What you all would like is if I took the brakes off since “real men” ride without brakes, but that is not a wise option in my area with all the hills.”
this seems pretty judgmental, as most of the posters on this site actually get a bit mad when they see a bike without a break…
only thing im not diggin about it is the geometry. but if it’s comfy and you like it then more power to ya.
for future people these guys want a bike that is pure so when it is used for two things and is a hybrid single speed it will be torn apart. god forbid you ride a trainer and then do laps on it.

Was a Trek District. Not “its”. Perhaps “Blackout” was the condition the builder was in while putting this together.
