This color scheme is serene. I really dig the black upper and silver below, very well done. The ourys seem like a copout though. I’d envision moustache bars or even a c-shape bar, which is incredibly similar to risers but much more classic looking.

Silver moustache bars and silver stem would look better. Risers look out of character to me on this bike. Chrome seat post also. Thanks

These are really good comments! I will take them under advisement… and here I thought I had perfection! I get boatloads of compliments but I think I agree about the risers and the grips… Its just that the set up is so much f-in’ fun to ride.

The bike is pretty cool. I had not noticed the Brooks saddle and the post go well with the black in the rims. Black moustache bars look neat but not any more comfy than the risers I would guess. You have a nice bike as is. I have too many and move parts around just like some train hobby people move locomotives around. I have more bikes than suits and hardly ever wear suits but ride a bike nearly every day for a short hop here or there. Photo may not look as stunning as the bike live. Thanks

very fresh set up, my only suggestion would be to switch out that chunky brake lever for a cross top.

What is a cross top> ?

Actually this bike is a perfect 10 for its builder. Bike building and modification is like a Chili Contest. Everyone has a different recipe. On some of course we agree. Thanks

WSB, a cross top is a brake lever from cane creek, whttp://canecreek.com/component-other?product=road-crosstop

JQ, I like your color schemes. I’m always a fan of the subtle and seductive approach. Hey where is this photo taken?…looking less like NYC here than your others.

thanks… July 4th weekend in Montauk Long Island (all the way out). That Bare Knuckle color (Khaki but really more a soft, mint green) invites subtlety.

What is it about the Ourys that you (and others) don’t like? Do they look goofy? Too “BMX-rubbery”? Or, is it not retro enough for this ride? In a quest for cool, I tried a number of different bar ends, including wooden and cork grips and these ended up being the fallback. While carrying the bike over your shoulder as you go up and down stairs; the end of the grip acts as a bumper. Which is practical. They feel good too but leather tape is nice. And then the risers… too trendy? Not that it really matters… just curious about why.

As you say,O-grips are comfy and risers are practical in traffic.Personally seeing them on mega-buck track frames is jarring-totally out of place. On low performance conversions to be ridden to Starbucks OK.That fits thr fixie style. On a gorgeous ,dedicated frame it smacks of “look at me”elitism. The upside is those frames show up for sale when the hipster moves on.

JQ, I don’t get all the Oury hate either. Fact is they’re super comfortable and for me that translates into more ride time…and that’s always a good thing. And if they’re “Bonti” Ourys, even better.
April 9th, 2010 @12:28 pm
I’ll quit ragging on O-grips.After all, nobody calls me out for my hockey tape bar wrap and even I feel silly about that.whatever works.like you said, more ride time is a good thing.
April 9th, 2010 @1:20 pm
Never played hockey, where can I get the bar wrap, not about to use inner tube. Actually I prefer gloves and let the chrome shine naked. You guys should work in the yard more and toughen up the hands. ( don’t tell me you are an Iron Worker ?)

jq i’m jealous of your bike

Bare knuckle frames have a reputation for being a tad expensive but still cheaper than fancy hand-built bikes we see here. Makes the Kilo TT frames seem like a bargain. BKs are suppose to be made in Venice Italy but please; how is that possible? I imagine its Italian steel shipped to Taiwan –but Im guessing. Euro-Asia is the tell-tale name of the company. Hey, its a nice day…. I think I’ll go for a spin!

Quite sleek.

I sold this frame. It was too stiff for my liking. It was also too pretty. Too many eyeballs on it made me think twice about locking it up ever. I (pathetically) never wanted to get it dirty. All that over a lousy Bare Knuckle frame. Now I have parts for a new project. I’ll take my time as I’m quite happy with my other ride.
