surely you can find a better way to tension chain(half link, careful filing, different gear ratio)? Stem is horrid, hope it’s temp until you get it dialed in. Probably not the best frame to convert but it sure is purrtee.

dear god that stem. looks like a robot penis. is that chain tensioner really necessary on a road frame? anyway, looks great apart from those.

more info on the stem

Look Ergo stem, for dialing in fit, On or off the track. Digget on the older Look frames, have seen it incorporated into some modern builds with success. Somewhat expensive, nice to have with multiple bikes or riders.

way too much white for me, but bike’s got some nice things going. I don’t understand that mess of a stem…options are good, but I don’t think it’s attractive. I also don’t understand the need for that style chain tensioner. Together, they look like extra weight for minimal returns

Swell idea. on or off the track, hittin’ the roads, the wood, the grass always dialed in. Thanks, M8!

You know what’s always “dialed in”? Tight allen bolts. I see no reason to change stems. If you need that drastic change you should probably get a second bike.

A bullhorn has a different reach than drops(who cares about risers). Both height and distance comfort zones will be in another spot and non-quill stems stick you at one spot. I use a different adjustment depending on which bar I’m using but eventually will buy two stems. Comfort on long rides can be priceless. If one ugly stem works, fine. But boy is it ugly.
February 14th, 2012 @8:13 pm
Not ugly. This stem isn’t about looks. Its 100 percent function, so you get man points. You also get originality points. Almost NEVER see these. Knocking it is like judging a hammer saying it isn’t sexy.
Sloman you have a lot in common with this stem. Its Old, crooked, people speak out about not liking it, and its on a bike that very few people care about in the first place.

The trick is to blend function and form into something functional and beautiful. This stem is gross. I don’t care how well it works…it looks like shit. I’ve taken dumps that look better than this stem.
February 14th, 2012 @11:16 pm
@NG There is no trick. Blending form and function is optional. The argument here is that the part in question (the vintage adjustable stem) was NEVER intended for form, but function alone. Understanding that, the part takes on a whole new existence being reborn on this modern conversion. It’s peculiarness (not a word) lends to it’s uniqueness and it wins style points the hard way… by being different. You mention not caring how well it works. We can assume that if the stem is in use…. whether we like the look of it or not, the mother fucker works. arguing your personal style is irrelevant here. This stem transcends style in a way that you aren’t capable of discussing right now. So let’s just drop it. Friends?
p.s. I have seen some dumps you have taken, and most of them are sub par… be honest… runny.. loose… couple drops of blood.
peace buddy

It’s not like judging a hammer at all, because a hammer has one function, and this stem has many. It’s like a leatherman. Sure it’s multifunctional, but like ng said, it still looks like shit. I don’t care how well it functions. So josh, can we assume your coprophagic then? “you eat pieces of shit for breakfast?”
February 15th, 2012 @1:47 am
Nope. this stem has one function… It connects the steer tube to the handlebars… What else do you think it does?
February 15th, 2012 @5:32 am
Josh,is a seatpost like a hammer too? Or do you weld yours in one place? Adjustability for dialing in,some people keep it despite it’s looks. And stop with the age crap, Like you said the other day,you too will be 40. I’ve been riding longer than that so maybe us oldys picked up something along the way.
February 15th, 2012 @9:12 am
It’s adjustable, having several positions. I thought you understood how an adjustable stem works. Apparently not. At any rate, it sucks. End of story.
