I remember Murray back in the 70s…biggest pos bikes ever, sold at montgemery ward. Most Murrays were just stamped together, so your lugged frame is obviously top of their line… although, I’m guessing it still weighs about twice as much as most other brands.
I like the idea you were going for on the paint job…but I don’t think it’s a success. The stickers aren’t big enough, the overly sporadic red looks out of place, etc – It’s way too busy for that limited amount of surface area. You’de need a stealthy, oval/wide tubed frame (leader, visp, etc) and 3 spoke mag rims to pull that off properly.
2 brakes…is this a single speed/freewheel?

Purely a bit of fun! Point taken with the stickers: I was reliving all those model aeroplanes I built.
My lbs advised two brakes as the lock ring may, just may, slip. Followed his advice and I feel secure. I may drop the rear after the winter. It is a true fixie and not a free wheel. The point of the bike was to supplement my distance training (just done my first century aged 59. Really proud!)

SO pleased I’m not the only person over 50 who still gets a huge kick from building and riding bikes similar to the first one they ever had! Its all about simplicity! I guess I’ll just never grow up.

I’ve just had one of those Road to Damascus moments! I’ve been riding a Bob Jackson Audax custom built bike for the last 10 years. The Murray was an experiment and a load of fun which I didn’t quite expect. It’s obvious: convert the B J to a fixie and keep all the bits I remove until I reach 70 and need gears!!!
