This old steel lugged frame bike was given to me after my last bike was stolen. I saw the potential in it as a fixie conversion as soon as I layed eyes on it. I took it to a couple bike shops to get their opinions on it and they both told me to leave it as a 10 speed but my stubborness did not listen. Even though the components are french I was lucky enough to find a new bb and french threaded cups for this classic beauty. Everything is sealed cartridge bearings except for the headset which was already in great condition when I recieved the bike. I love smashing on this thing coming back from Vasona Park on the Los Gatos creek trail. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to anybody about not converting this old road bike.

I’ll keep an eye out for you on the LGCT. That’s my lunchtime ride. Black Langster with Mavic Ellipses.

shoulda listened to the LBSs,but if you like it no harm,no foul it looks to be a low end Pug. Converted one ages ago with poor results. Dirt road bombing is a rush ain’t it? So save all those Huret parts for when you trade up and ’til then enjoy.

“looks to be LIKE a Pug” Motobs had low end price leaders too.

my opinion on conversions is if you have just a frame, go for it. if it has components on it already as a road bike but they are rusted/not working great, convert away….but i have a problem with taking what is already a perfectly good road bike, stripping off all the parts to make it a fixie….thats just me.
but all in all not a bad build. im liking most of it, except for some things: needs proper grips, especially since the barends are exposed. exposed barends, while looking kind of sh!tty, also are dangerous in that they can take out a core sample of your leg in a bad bail. also, not feeling that saddle. i would get a turbo. ive mentioned turbo a few times in other people’s builds, mainly because i think its the cheapest, comfiest alternative to an ugly saddle. black brooks would be more awesome. also your saddle is pointing up slightly, which is off putting.
just my 2cents. all in all tho a nice build.

Excellent feedback thank you all for the comments. I wasn’t really feeling the cottered cranks that originally came with the bike which was a big concern of mine. I don’t really think I butchered this bike for I customized it to my needs. The saddle though I do admit looks positioned incorrectly in this picture haha that was my bad but after a quick reference to sheldon brown I have most efficiency with my legs at present time. That stem is really an eye catcher too but I might have to go with something shorter since I moved the saddle farther back. Anyone wanna buy it?

http://www.myfixedgear.net/monty-the-motobecane my old monty. The bottom bracket and headset are original. If it works why swap it out? I rebuilt them both and they are buttery smooth. Everything else lined up great. I just had to flip the chainring to the back of the spider and the chainline is solid. All I want is a better brake lever. I have ripped of the rim decals since the pics were taken and it looks more mean. Love yours but hate the seat. Don’t worry people hate tons of things on mine.
